Central Iowa Blues Society\nBlues In The Schools Program 2007\n\nThis Blues In The Schools educational program was held in the music education department of Scavo Campus located at 19th and Locust in Des Moines, IA. The program ran daily from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday June 18th - 29th, and culminated in a live performance on the U.S. Cellular stage at the Des Moines Arts Festival at 7:00 PM Friday June 29th.\nEach student was given the opportunity to learn to play either the guitar or harmonica, how to write music along with the history and culture of the blues and its impact in Iowa. The course provided information on the history of Blues in conjunction with music instruction for guitar, harmonica and voice with a possible art component. Students kept a journal, which contained names, definitions, handouts and diagrams related to music along with their own thoughts and notes. The students learned how to recognize the relationship between Blues music and its cultural heritage as well as how this musical form has effected, influenced or created other musical forms. By the end of the session, they were able to play 12 bars of Blues on a guitar, a harmonica and through singing. \n\nClockwise from top - Dartanyan Brown (educator), Maxx G (guest teacher), Steven Banks (17), Ben Monroe (15), Kevin Burt (educator), Uzo Nwaturuocha (11), and DeWayne Robinson, Jr. (17)
